Popular Nigerian content creator and relationship commentator Emmanuel Obruste, better known as GehGeh, has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his viral wedding videos, revealing that the ceremony was never real.
The footage, which showed GehGeh dressed in matching burgundy traditional attire alongside a woman in what appeared to be a wedding celebration, spread rapidly across social media over the weekend. The videos left many fans convinced that the outspoken influencer had secretly tied the knot.
As the clips gained attention, criticism followed. Many social media users accused GehGeh of contradicting his long-standing opinions on relationships and marriage. Even some of his siblings reportedly questioned why they were not invited to what they believed was his wedding.
However, during a recent interview with StreamRewind, GehGeh put an end to the speculation, explaining that the event was deliberately staged as part of a promotional campaign and a social experiment.
“We organised everything as a normal promo. Apart from the fact that we purposely did it, I still wanted to get the public’s reactions,” he said.
According to GehGeh, the viral stunt was also meant to clear up what he described as a common misunderstanding about his teachings.
“Some people have a misunderstanding about my GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University. The major thing people have been saying is that GehGeh told them not to get married, but I got married,” he explained.
The content creator stressed that he has never been completely against marriage. Instead, he said he believes that if a man chooses to marry, polygamy is a better option than monogamy.
Sharing his personal opinion, GehGeh said:
“I did not kick against marriage. I said do not marry, and even if you must marry, go for polygamy. This is because polygamy is the path that guides a man’s heart from heartbreak.”
He went on to explain why he holds that belief.
“Because when you are with different women, it will be hard for one woman to manipulate you. And this was what our forefathers practised. That is the core principle of my university.”
Following his clarification, the conversation has shifted online, with many Nigerians debating whether the publicity stunt was a brilliant marketing strategy or an unnecessary attempt to grab attention.
