The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that between eight and 10 major road projects across Abuja will be completed and commissioned before the end of 2026.
Wike gave the assurance on Monday while inspecting several ongoing road projects in the FCT, expressing satisfaction with the progress of work on key infrastructure, including the Apo–Karshi Road and the Bwari–Kubwa Road.
The minister dismissed suggestions that political activities ahead of the 2027 general election could slow down project execution, insisting that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains focused on delivering its campaign promises.
“Has the tenure of Mr President ended? Certainly not. His first tenure will be ending precisely May 29, 2027. So, if that is the case, it means that the work has also not ended,” Wike said.
Speaking on the Apo–Karshi Road, a project first awarded in 2010, Wike said construction is now progressing smoothly after the Federal Capital Territory Administration terminated the previous contractor’s contract over poor performance and awarded the project to a new company.
During his inspection of the Bwari–Kubwa Road, the minister acknowledged the challenging terrain facing contractors but warned against unnecessary delays. He assured contractors that funds would be released promptly to ensure the project is completed before the peak of the rainy season.
Wike reiterated that the FCT Administration remains committed to delivering between eight and 10 strategic road projects before the end of the year, adding that timely funding would help contractors maximise the current favourable weather conditions.
