Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has urged young Nigerians to stop relying on sports betting as a path to wealth, warning that gambling cannot guarantee lasting financial success.
Speaking during a sermon on Sunday, the renowned cleric encouraged young people to embrace hard work, patience and purpose instead of chasing quick money through betting.
According to Oyedepo, sports betting has become a major distraction capable of robbing many young people of their future if they continue to depend on it.
“Young people, Naija Bet is not the way to financial fortune. Stop wasting your destiny, stop wasting your time. I have never been once deceived. Stop!” he said.
The bishop stressed that genuine prosperity does not come overnight but is achieved through consistent effort, discipline and faith.
“Things may be slow, but it is sure,” he added, assuring young people that success is certain for those who remain committed to the right path.
During the sermon, Oyedepo also reflected on his personal journey of faith, recalling how he honoured the woman who introduced him to Christianity when he was a teenager.
“My mother of faith led me to Christ at 15. When I turned 60, I got her a car that they took to her place in the U.S. She wept. You had better wake up,” he said.
His remarks come at a time when concerns continue to grow over the increasing popularity of sports betting among young Nigerians, with religious leaders, financial experts and social commentators repeatedly warning about its financial and social impact.
Oyedepo maintained that lasting success is built on diligence and perseverance rather than gambling, urging young people to focus on opportunities that will secure their future.
