Spanish champions Barcelona have strengthened their attack with the signing of German forward Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund in a deal reportedly worth €29 million, including performance-related add-ons.
The Catalan club confirmed the transfer on Thursday, announcing that the 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2031.
“Adeyemi becomes a new Barca player for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2031,” Barcelona said in an official statement.
Adeyemi becomes Barcelona’s second major signing of the summer, following the arrival of England international Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
Known for his blistering pace and versatility, the German international is capable of playing as a centre-forward or on either wing, giving coach Hansi Flick more attacking options ahead of the new season.
His arrival comes after Barcelona saw veteran striker Robert Lewandowski leave the club, while Marcus Rashford also departed following the end of his loan spell from Manchester United.
Barcelona are still looking to further strengthen their attack and have reportedly submitted a bid for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, who remains one of the club’s top transfer targets this summer.
Adeyemi first broke into the German national team under Hansi Flick in 2021.
He joined Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 and went on to score 36 goals in 146 appearances across all competitions before sealing his move to the Spanish giants.
Barcelona will hope the speedy attacker can make an immediate impact as they prepare to defend their domestic title and compete in Europe next season.
