Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, has advised his brother to reject his appointment as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), arguing that the position does not reflect his political status and experience.
Isaac made the remarks in a video shared on his Instagram page shortly after the Presidency announced Ayo Fayose as one of 26 new appointees to the boards and leadership of various federal agencies and commissions.
According to the Presidency, Ayo Fayose was appointed Chairman of the REA Board, where he will serve alongside Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors.
Reacting to the development, Isaac questioned why his brother was not considered for what he described as a more prominent federal appointment.
“They said they gave my brother chairman of a parastatal. They didn’t make him a minister or an ambassador. So why just chairman of a parastatal?” he said.
He compared the appointment to that of former presidential aide Reno Omokri, claiming Omokri was appointed an ambassador.
“Even Reno Omokri sef, they gave him ambassador. They couldn’t give my brother ambassador,” Isaac stated.
Isaac also suggested that the timing of the appointment may have been influenced by the recent visit of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to his residence.
“They gave my brother this appointment because Obi came to visit me. So they said, ‘No, we must enter that family,’” he claimed.
Recalling previous conversations with his brother, Isaac said Ayo Fayose had always maintained that he would focus on his private business after leaving office rather than accept another government appointment.
“My brother told me, ‘When I leave Government House, I will not be a minister, I will not be DG, I will not be senator. I will face my business,’” he said.
He added that the former governor had built his wealth before entering politics and remained financially successful, describing him as someone who did not need another public office.
Isaac described the appointment as a “Greek gift”, questioning why it was being offered now and not earlier.
Expressing confidence that his brother would decline the offer, he urged him to hand the appointment to one of his children instead.
“Congrats on your appointment. You better give it to your son. Please don’t use that kind of appointment. You are too big for that,” he said.
Beyond the appointment, Isaac also expressed confidence that the opposition would perform strongly in the 2027 general election, insisting he believes Nigerians are ready for political change.
As of the time of filing this report, Ayo Fayose has not publicly responded to his brother’s remarks.
