Investors on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) recorded a ₦1.755 trillion gain on Monday as the stock market continued its impressive bullish run, driven by strong buying interest in major stocks.
The market’s All-Share Index (ASI) rose by 2,721.83 points, or 1.12 per cent, to close at 246,183.96 points, while the overall market capitalisation increased to ₦158.812 trillion.
The rally was largely driven by gains in heavyweight stocks, including BUA Cement, Guinness Nigeria, First HoldCo, Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) and Custodian Investment.
Among the day’s biggest gainers, Custodian Investment and NEM Insurance each climbed 10 per cent, while BUA Cement, First HoldCo, and FTN Cocoa Processors also posted strong gains.
On the flip side, Sunu Assurance led the losers after falling 10 per cent, followed by Tripple Gee & Company, ABC Transport, Abbey Mortgage Bank, and Wapic Insurance.
Trading activity also improved significantly, with investors exchanging 851.63 million shares valued at ₦49.6 billion across 56,873 deals.
First HoldCo recorded the highest trading volume, followed by Access Holdings, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Zenith Bank, and Sterling Financial Holdings Company.
The latest performance reflects continued investor confidence in the Nigerian equities market despite mixed market sentiment.
