Manchester City have completed the signing of highly-rated teenage winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City, with the youngster putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.
The 17-year-old joins the Premier League champions after attracting interest from several top clubs following his impressive rise at Leicester.
Although the transfer fee was not officially disclosed, reports say the deal is worth around £10 million with performance-related add-ons and will keep Monga at the Etihad until 2031.
Monga made history at Leicester after making his Premier League debut at just 15 years old and went on to make 37 appearances for the Foxes. He also became the youngest player to start a match for the club.
The England Under-19 international is also the third-youngest player to feature in Premier League history, behind Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman.
Speaking after completing the move, Monga expressed his excitement about joining City.
“When I became aware that Manchester City were interested, I knew instantly this was the right choice for me. For any young footballer, to become part of this amazing club is a dream come true,” he said.
The youngster also praised City’s record of developing academy players into first-team stars.
“It has also handed opportunities to players from the academy like Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly, which shows that the pathway is there. It is a privilege to be here and I’m delighted to have joined,” Monga added.
Monga becomes the third English player to join Manchester City during the current transfer window as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.
