Nigerian troops have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on a military base in Borno State, while also rescuing kidnapped victims and arresting suspected terrorist collaborators in a series of operations across the North-East.
The latest operations, carried out by the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), dealt fresh blows to terrorist groups through rescue missions, intelligence-led raids, arrests and the recovery of weapons, cash and logistics intended for insurgents.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani in Ngala Local Government Area successfully fought back a coordinated attack launched by ISWAP fighters.
Although the terrorists briefly breached part of the base’s defensive perimeter during the fierce exchange of gunfire, the troops quickly regrouped, launched a counter-offensive and forced the attackers to retreat after inflicting heavy casualties.
“The troops rapidly regrouped, mounted a determined counter-offensive and decisively expelled the attackers, inflicting significant casualties and forcing the surviving terrorists to flee with varying degrees of gunshot wounds,” Goni said.
The military, however, confirmed that one soldier was killed during the battle, while two gun trucks and some combat equipment were damaged.
Despite the losses, the military assured Nigerians that the base remains fully under its control.
“The situation at FOB Logomani remains firmly under the control of Operation Hadin Kai troops, with reinforcements deployed, exploitation operations ongoing and additional measures being implemented to further strengthen the defensive resilience of the location,” the statement added.
Abductees Rescued, Terrorist Hideouts Raided
In a separate operation conducted on July 7, troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion rescued two abducted victims from a terrorist hideout in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
During the operation, soldiers recovered ₦1.2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities, alongside food supplies and other logistics believed to have supported terrorist operations.
The rescued victims have since been moved to a secure location where they are receiving medical treatment and psychological support.
Suspected Terrorist Suppliers Arrested
Operation Hadin Kai also recorded several other breakthroughs across the North-East.
Troops of the 232 Battalion arrested a suspected criminal in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, leading to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 28 rounds of live ammunition.
In Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State, troops of the 149 Battalion arrested two suspected terrorist logistics suppliers. Items recovered included cash, a Volkswagen Golf car, construction materials, household items and other supplies allegedly meant for terrorist groups.
Security forces also intercepted another suspected logistics supplier at Molai checkpoint transporting a large quantity of medical supplies without proper clearance.
Meanwhile, troops of the 233 Tank Battalion, working alongside local hunters, arrested another suspect in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State while transporting five motorcycle tyres allegedly intended for Boko Haram/ISWAP members.
Six ISWAP Members Surrender
In another development, six suspected ISWAP members, along with their families, voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 192 Battalion operating in Gwoza Local Government Area.
Preliminary investigations showed they fled from terrorist camps located in Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide within the Mandara Mountains.
The military recovered ₦1,541,500, two Tecno mobile phones and other items from the surrendered suspects.
Captain Goni said the latest successes demonstrate the effectiveness of sustained military offensives and intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks across the North-East.
He also warned individuals supplying food, fuel, medical items, transportation or other logistics to terrorist groups to stop immediately or face prosecution.
“Anyone found aiding, abetting or collaborating with terrorist elements, directly or indirectly, will be identified, apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he warned.
The military further assured Nigerians that search-and-rescue operations would continue until all kidnapped victims are safely reunited with their families.
