Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have intercepted a truck transporting 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and dozens of cartons containing suspected illicit substances during an intelligence-led operation.
The interception was carried out by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit along the Lekki-Epe corridor, leading to the arrest of four suspects.
According to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, preliminary findings indicate that the truck was heading to a destination in Nigeria’s South-East region.
“We received intelligence on the movement and immediately swung into action,” the police commissioner said.
Fatai disclosed that officers acted swiftly after receiving information about the movement of the suspicious cargo, resulting in the successful interception of the vehicle before it left Lagos.
In addition to the military camouflage uniforms, security operatives also recovered 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs allegedly being transported alongside the items.
The arrested suspects are currently assisting investigators as efforts continue to uncover those behind the operation and determine the intended use of the recovered materials.
The police commissioner noted that criminal groups have often been found wearing military-style uniforms, making the discovery a matter of serious security concern.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the uniforms, identify all individuals involved and determine whether the items were intended for criminal activities.
The Lagos State Police Command assured residents that it remains committed to disrupting illegal operations and safeguarding public safety.
