US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will launch even stronger military strikes against Iran if Tehran continues attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The warning came after Trump accused Iran of carrying out attacks on vessels in the strategic waterway, a key global oil shipping route, saying the US had already responded with powerful airstrikes.
Taking to social media, the US president said the latest American bombing campaign was retaliation for what he described as Iran’s attack on ships.
“This is in retribution for yesterday’s bombing of ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse!” Trump wrote.
Speaking later with journalists aboard Air Force One while returning from the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump maintained that the United States would respond forcefully to any future attacks by Iran.
“We just hit them very hard, and I say we hit them 20 to one. Every time they hit us, we’re going to hit them 20,” Trump said.
He added that the latest military action was intended as retaliation, claiming Iran had carried out another smaller attack afterward.
“And we did it last night. They did a little something today, but it was really retribution for last night,” he stated.
Trump’s latest remarks further escalate tensions between Washington and Tehran, raising fresh concerns over stability in the Middle East and the security of one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.
