President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the access roads, power and water supply to the Informal Sector Layout in Wasa District, Abuja, saying his administration is using infrastructure development to drive economic inclusion, support small businesses and improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Represented at the ceremony by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, the President said the project reflects the commitment of his Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure that no Nigerian is left behind.
“We made a solemn promise that no segment of our society would be left behind. We also pledged that infrastructure would not be built only for the elite but would serve as a platform for the economic empowerment of everyday Nigerians,” Tinubu said.
The President noted that the relocation of mechanics, artisans and traders from the Apo Mechanic Village to the Wasa layout had remained unfulfilled for over a decade, but his administration had now delivered on that promise.
He described the project as more than just roads, electricity and water, saying it is an investment that will stimulate business activities, reduce the cost of doing business, create jobs and increase Abuja’s internally generated revenue.
Tinubu also praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for delivering key infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
“He has demonstrated that with political will, government projects can be completed efficiently and on schedule,” the President said.
Addressing beneficiaries, Tinubu urged mechanics, artisans and traders to protect the facilities and use them to expand their businesses and create employment opportunities.
The President also acknowledged the economic hardship caused by recent reforms but assured Nigerians that the government is implementing measures to ease the burden through social intervention programmes, agricultural investments and critical infrastructure projects.
“We are not asking Nigerians to endure hardship without hope. We will continue to build, invest and deliver projects until every Nigerian begins to enjoy the dividends of these reforms,” he added.
Speaking at the event, Nyesom Wike said the project fulfilled President Tinubu’s promise to provide a permanent and organised location for mechanics and traders operating along the Apo corridor.
He urged the affected associations to resolve their internal disagreements and begin relocating to the newly completed site.
