Nigerian singer Tekno has revealed that he refunded more than $1 million to event organisers after a vocal condition forced him to cancel several performances, describing the period as one of the toughest moments of his career.
Speaking during an interview with Cool FM, the 33-year-old singer said losing his voice not only affected his music career but also left him struggling financially.
“I was refunding so much money, over $1 million worth. That was a very dark time. Even after my surgery, I couldn’t pay for the surgery,” Tekno said.
The singer disclosed that a concert in Cameroon, booked a year earlier, eventually helped him pay for his medical treatment.
According to him, he earned about $110,000 from the performance but was left with just $3,000 after settling expenses.
Despite the difficult experience, Tekno said it changed the way he views life and taught him to remain grateful instead of dwelling on setbacks.
“I could be mad at God and ask, ‘Why me?’ But I chose to focus on the fact that I’m still able to wake up, smile, laugh and keep making music,” he said.
In 2018, Made Men Music Group (MMMG) CEO Ubi Franklin confirmed that Tekno had temporarily stepped away from performances after suffering damage to his voice box.
