Security operatives in Ondo State have launched an intensive manhunt for gunmen who abducted Chief Adeniyi Adelana, the traditional leader of Ode Oriya Community in Owo Local Government Area.
The 60-year-old community leader was reportedly kidnapped after armed men invaded his residence at night and whisked him away through a nearby bush path to an unknown location.
According to the Ondo State Police Command, officers were immediately deployed to the area after receiving a distress call, leading to a large-scale search-and-rescue operation.
Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh said security personnel are currently combing surrounding forests, bush routes, and other suspected hideouts in an effort to locate the abducted monarch and arrest his captors.
During the attack, the monarch’s wife was reportedly shot in the right hand. She was rescued and taken to a medical facility, where she is receiving treatment and responding positively.
Authorities have also increased tactical deployments across Owo and neighbouring communities to strengthen security and support ongoing rescue efforts.
The police urged residents to remain calm and assist security agencies with useful information that could help in the operation.
The incident has heightened concerns among residents, as cases of kidnapping and attacks on traditional rulers continue to pose security challenges in parts of the state.
