A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, is attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest Holy Bible reading marathon, with a target of reading continuously for 144 hours in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The record attempt, tagged “144 Hours in the Word,” began on June 22 at Novotel, Port Harcourt, and is scheduled to end on July 2, in line with official Guinness World Records guidelines.
As of Saturday, Habibat had surpassed the 100-hour mark, moving into the final phase of the endurance challenge.
Videos shared online showed her reading aloud from the Bible while supporters gathered to cheer her on, as digital timers monitored her progress throughout the event.
According to the organisers, the attempt is being carried out under Guinness World Records rules, which require participants to read continuously aloud, with only limited breaks allowed.
Habibat, a member of The Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, said the challenge is a faith-inspired initiative aimed at encouraging people to engage more deeply with the Bible.
Her Senior Pastor, Dr Andy Osakwe, described the attempt as more than a world record bid, saying it is a spiritual project designed to honour God’s Word and inspire believers.
The challenge has received support from family, friends and church members, while also attracting widespread attention on social media.
