More than a year after the death of legendary Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, his widow has appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance, revealing that the family is battling severe hardship.
Speaking in an emotional interview with content creator King Mitchy, Mr Ibu’s widow said life has become increasingly difficult, with the family struggling to pay rent, electricity bills and their children’s school fees.
“We fetch water from the well because I have not paid the house rent. They have even cut my lights for two months now. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. It’s not easy,” she said.
She disclosed that the financial challenges have also affected her children’s education, saying they are currently unable to attend school because of unpaid tuition fees.
“Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she added.
One of Mr Ibu’s daughters praised her mother for remaining strong despite the family’s struggles, saying she continues to do everything possible to provide for them.
According to King Mitchy, the family decided to speak publicly about their situation in the hope that kind-hearted Nigerians would come to their aid.
Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most beloved comic actors, passed away on March 2, 2024, after a prolonged illness.
His family says they remain hopeful that public support will help them overcome their current challenges.
