Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has opened up about why she decided to burn the outfit she wore to the burial of late actor Alexx Ekubo, sparking conversations among fans on social media.
The actress shared the reason in a post on her Instagram Story shortly after attending the burial ceremony of the beloved actor, who was laid to rest in his hometown in Arochukwu, Abia State.
According to Angela, the decision was based on advice she received from her godmother, who warned that it was not proper to keep clothes worn to a burial ceremony.
Sharing a video showing the outfit being set on fire, the actress said she decided to follow the advice and also use the opportunity to inform her followers about the practice.
“My Godmother said it is not good to keep the clothes you wore to a burial around you; you should burn them.”
Angela further urged friends and family members to take note of the advice, while praying for long life and God’s protection.
The actress’s revelation quickly drew reactions online, with many Nigerians sharing different opinions about the tradition and whether it should still be observed.
Alexx Ekubo was laid to rest last week after reportedly passing away on May 11 following a prolonged battle with stage 4 kidney cancer.
The actor’s death shocked fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry, with many paying emotional tributes to celebrate his life and career.
