The Nigeria Police Force has announced a new spokesperson following a major reshuffle approved by Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu has been named the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), taking over from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid.
The development comes barely three months after Placid assumed the role of police spokesman, making the latest change one of the most talked-about leadership adjustments within the Force in recent months.
According to the police, the appointment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen communication, improve public engagement, and support reforms aimed at building greater trust between the police and citizens.
Before his elevation, CSP Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he played a key role in handling public complaints and promoting accountability within the police system.
Over the years, he has occupied several operational and administrative positions across the country, gaining experience in intelligence gathering, crime management, public relations, and strategic communication.
The Akwa Ibom-born officer is a graduate of Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo and has participated in various professional training programmes covering investigative procedures, intelligence analysis, crime scene management, human rights policing, and public communication.
Police authorities expressed confidence in his ability to effectively manage the Force’s public image and strengthen communication with Nigerians.
The appointment is expected to usher in a new phase in the Police Force’s engagement with the public as authorities continue efforts to improve transparency and operational effectiveness.
