The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set an ambitious target of securing 500,000 votes for Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election.
Kaduna State Governor and Chairman of the APC Campaign Council, Uba Sani, disclosed this while speaking on Arise Television on Saturday.
According to Sani, reports from across Ekiti’s 16 local government areas and 177 wards indicate that the election has been largely peaceful, transparent and orderly.
“What we’re looking at as APC is about 500,000 votes for Governor Oyebanji,” he said.
The APC chieftain noted that the party’s target is far above the 187,000 votes Oyebanji secured during the 2022 governorship election.
He attributed the confidence to the large number of registered voters in the state and the high rate of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection.
Sani also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and election observers for their efforts in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
While acknowledging a few challenges during the exercise, he said most of the reported incidents were related to network issues affecting the upload of results and were quickly addressed.
The Kaduna governor further credited Oyebanji’s popularity to what he described as inclusive governance, improved infrastructure, healthcare investments, education reforms and the payment of pensions and retirement benefits.
He expressed optimism that the governor would secure a convincing victory once votes are fully counted.
