The Anambra State Government has launched an N80 million startup fund for young entrepreneurs while graduating 400 youths trained in advanced technology skills.
The initiative is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s plan to transform Anambra into a major technology and innovation hub in Africa.
Under the programme, 80 startups received grants of N1 million each after completing a 12-week business incubation and training programme.
Speaking at the event in Awka, Soludo said his administration is investing in technology, innovation and digital skills to prepare young people for future opportunities and create a stronger economy.
“Our administration is committed to transforming Anambra into Africa’s Silicon Valley,” the governor said.
Beyond the startup funding, the state also celebrated the graduation of 400 technology trainees.
The graduates include 300 participants trained in robotics and embedded systems, alongside 100 others who completed specialised network engineering programmes.
Officials said the beneficiaries received practical training in areas such as automation, broadband deployment, fibre optic installation and other emerging technologies.
The government noted that the programme is designed to help young people build businesses, secure employment and contribute to the state’s growing digital economy.
In a related development, broadband provider Connekt Broadband announced a N1 billion Connectivity Fund aimed at expanding internet access across Anambra’s 21 local government areas.
The company said the initiative would improve connectivity in schools, hospitals, markets and public institutions while creating more job opportunities for trained technology professionals.
State officials added that efforts are ongoing to develop a permanent technology campus that will serve as a centre for innovation, entrepreneurship and digital skills development.
