The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a major leadership restructuring following the dissolution of its Directorate of State (DoS) by its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
The group disclosed that the move is part of efforts to reposition the organisation, strengthen internal operations and address challenges affecting its activities.
In a statement released from Germany, IPOB confirmed that Kanu approved the dissolution of the third administration of the Directorate of State and appointed US-based Mazi Chris Nwaogu as the new Head of the body.
According to the group, Nwaogu will immediately oversee the administration, coordination and daily affairs of IPOB under Kanu’s leadership.
IPOB explained that the Directorate of State serves as the organisation’s administrative arm and has played a key role in managing its operations since its establishment in 2012.
The group said the leadership overhaul followed a review of the outgoing administration’s performance, citing concerns over internal unity, communication challenges, organisational effectiveness and member welfare.
“The dissolution of the third administration is ultimately not an act of vengeance but an act of organisational renewal,” the statement said.
As part of the restructuring, IPOB also announced the creation of an Elders Advisory Council to provide strategic guidance and support to the new leadership team.
Several new appointments were unveiled, covering finance, welfare, media, coordination and international operations across different regions of the world.
The group also confirmed the reinstatement of some previously suspended or expelled members, stating that they would be reintegrated pending further administrative review.
IPOB urged its members and supporters worldwide to remain united and committed as the newly appointed leadership begins its duties.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by the pro-Biafra organisation to reorganise its structures and strengthen its activities across Nigeria and international chapters.
