A senatorial aspirant in Imo State, Isaac Nwachukwu, has taken legal action against the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), alleging that he was denied the party’s ticket despite paying ₦25 million during the nomination process.
Nwachukwu, who is seeking to represent Imo North Senatorial District in the 2027 elections, filed the suit before a Federal High Court in Owerri.
The aspirant claimed he emerged as the party’s consensus candidate but was later replaced by another contender under circumstances he described as irregular.
According to court documents, Nwachukwu alleged that he purchased the party’s expression of interest form and also made financial contributions towards the party’s activities as required.
He further claimed that after participating in the screening process and receiving clearance to contest, his candidacy was allegedly substituted despite being ratified as the consensus candidate.
In the suit, he is asking the court to declare him the rightful NDC candidate for the Imo North senatorial race.
Nwachukwu also wants the court to stop the party from presenting any other candidate for the election and prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising anyone else for the position.
The aspirant maintained that all procedures required by the party were followed and argued that his removal from the ticket violated both party rules and electoral guidelines.
The case is expected to draw attention as political parties continue preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
