US President Donald Trump has fiercely defended his newly signed agreement with Iran, dismissing critics who say he made too many concessions to end the conflict.
Speaking after formally signing the deal, Trump accused opponents of ignoring the economic benefits already being felt, including falling oil prices and gains in the stock market.
“These fools, who think I haven’t been tough enough on Iran, are either jealous, bad people, or stupid,” Trump wrote on social media.
The agreement, signed alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, is aimed at ending weeks of conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran while reopening the crucial Strait of Hormuz.
The deal has already sparked global attention, with oil prices dropping as markets reacted positively to news of the breakthrough.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also signed the accord, describing it as a significant step forward and saying attention must now shift to implementing its terms.
Under the agreement, the United States is expected to ease certain sanctions on Iran while both sides enter a two-month negotiation period focused on Tehran’s nuclear programme and regional issues.
However, the deal has drawn criticism from some politicians and analysts who argue that Iran received major economic benefits without making enough concessions on its nuclear ambitions.
Republican Senator Bill Cassidy described the agreement as a serious foreign policy mistake, claiming it failed to adequately address concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities.
Despite the criticism, Trump has maintained that the deal offers a path to stability and reduces the risk of a wider conflict in the Middle East.
