The Deji of Akureland, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, has called on President Bola Tinubu and security agencies to intensify efforts to tackle the growing insecurity affecting parts of the country.
The monarch made the appeal while receiving the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South West, DIG Fayoade Mustapha, at his palace in Akure.
Expressing concern over the worsening security situation, Oba Aladelusi specifically urged authorities to secure the release of kidnapped victims in Oyo State, including schoolchildren and teachers who remain in captivity.
According to the traditional ruler, the emotional and psychological trauma being experienced by the victims and their families highlights the urgent need for decisive action.
“We cannot rest until the battle against insurgency, kidnapping, banditry and other forms of criminality is totally won,” he said.
While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies, the monarch stressed that more must be done to restore peace and ensure citizens feel safe.
He also called for improved welfare for police officers, noting that better support and motivation would strengthen security operations.
Responding, DIG Mustapha assured the monarch that security agencies are working tirelessly to secure the safe return of the abducted victims and combat criminal activities across the region.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has intensified operations against kidnappers and other criminal elements.
Police operatives recently carried out a large-scale security sweep in the Ilu-Abo Forest and surrounding communities, targeting suspected criminal hideouts.
According to the police, several camps believed to have been used by criminals were discovered and destroyed during the operation.
Authorities say the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks, improve public safety and prevent forests from becoming safe havens for kidnappers.
The police also urged residents to continue providing useful information that could aid security operations and help keep communities safe.
