Real Madrid have officially strengthened their defence with the signing of French international Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool on a four-year contract.
The Spanish giants confirmed on Thursday that the centre-back will remain at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2030 after reaching an agreement to bring him to Madrid following the expiration of his Liverpool contract.
Konate leaves Anfield after a successful spell that saw him become one of Liverpool’s key defenders.
The 27-year-old made 183 appearances for the Reds after joining from RB Leipzig in 2021 and helped the club win several trophies, including the Premier League and FA Cup.
His arrival marks another major move in what has been a busy transfer window for Real Madrid.
The club has already made significant changes to its squad as it looks to return to winning ways after two seasons without a major trophy.
Konate is currently away with the French national team at the FIFA World Cup but will link up with his new teammates after the tournament.
Real Madrid have also strengthened other areas of the squad in recent weeks as they prepare for the new campaign.
The addition of the experienced defender is expected to boost the club’s backline as they target domestic and European success next season.
Madrid fans will now be eager to see how quickly Konate settles into life at one of football’s biggest clubs.
