The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged murder of a 33-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a culvert in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
According to police authorities, the suspects allegedly lured the woman to a residence before killing her and dumping her body near Jesus Bus Stop in the community.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the breakthrough came after weeks of investigation involving intelligence gathering and digital forensic analysis.
The case reportedly began on March 13, 2026, when the victim’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters.
A day later, residents discovered the body of an unidentified woman inside a culvert. The deceased was later identified by her father as his missing daughter.
In a statement, the police identified the suspects as 26-year-old Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara and 20-year-old Makuochukwu Uzoigwe.
“The Anambra State Police Command has successfully uncovered the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and murder of a 33-year-old woman and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime in Oraifite,” Ikenga said.
According to the police, investigations revealed that the principal suspect had allegedly been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to planning the attack after developing resentment following a disagreement involving the woman’s husband.
“He further confessed that on March 13, 2026, he lured the deceased to his residence under the guise of seeking help due to illness,” Ikenga stated.
Police said the woman was allegedly attacked with a machete upon arrival, resulting in her death.
The suspects were also accused of disposing of the victim’s body in a culvert during the early hours of the following day.
“Both suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the police spokesperson added.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the detectives involved in the case and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of crime.
