Gunmen have kidnapped Chief Adeniyi Adelana, the Baale of Ode Oriya Community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, after attacking his residence on Saturday night.
According to the Ondo State Police Command, the monarch was abducted around 8:05 p.m. when about six armed men stormed his home and forcefully took him away through a nearby bush path.
During the attack, the monarch’s wife was reportedly shot in the right hand while trying to escape. She is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh said security operatives have launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving the police and other security agencies to secure the monarch’s release and track down the kidnappers.
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has directed tactical teams and intelligence units to intensify efforts to rescue the traditional ruler and ensure those behind the attack are brought to justice.
The latest incident adds to growing security concerns in Ondo State. Earlier this year, another traditional ruler, Kehinde Jacob Faledon, was killed by gunmen in Akure North Local Government Area.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted monarch safely.
