Suspected bandits have killed three people and set several houses ablaze during an attack on Pissa village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying the attackers stormed the community on Saturday morning and unleashed violence on residents.
According to police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, the bandits invaded the village around 9:00 a.m., killing three people and burning down homes before security forces responded.
Abiodun said military personnel were deployed to the area and engaged the attackers, although details of the operation were still being gathered at the time of reporting.
The latest attack comes just days after panic spread across parts of Minna, the state capital, following rumours of a possible bandit invasion that forced many schoolchildren to leave their classrooms early.
The state government and police had dismissed those reports, assuring residents that no attack occurred in any school and that security agencies remained on high alert.
Despite those assurances, the fresh attack in Borgu has once again raised concerns over the security situation in parts of Niger State.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to restore calm and gather more information about the incident.
