The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports claiming that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged candidate substitutions within the party.
The group described the reports as false and insisted that neither Kwankwaso nor the movement has threatened to quit the party.
Speaking on the controversy, the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, said claims of a looming exit were nothing more than rumours being circulated without any factual basis.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement, and neither its leader, is complaining,” Mohammed stated.
Reports had emerged suggesting that the Kwankwasiyya bloc was unhappy after some candidates reportedly nominated by its loyalists were replaced, allegedly violating an earlier political agreement within the party.
However, Mohammed rejected the claims, maintaining that the party followed due process during its primaries.
According to him, the NDC conducted its primaries on May 29 in line with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines, while winners were duly affirmed and submitted without internal disputes.
He explained that party stakeholders had earlier agreed on a consensus arrangement where necessary and successfully resolved issues before the submission of candidates.
Mohammed further noted that Kwankwaso has not expressed any dissatisfaction with the party nor communicated any intention to leave.
“Kwankwaso has not communicated any grievance with the party to the movement,” he added.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation over internal developments within the NDC ahead of future political contests.
Despite the rumours, the Kwankwasiyya Movement insists it remains committed to the party and its leadership.
