Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has commended operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) and other officers involved in the successful rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, who were abducted in Ibadan.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP praised the courage, professionalism, and dedication displayed by the operatives during the operation, describing their efforts as crucial to the safe recovery of the victims.
“The dedication, resilience and professionalism of the operatives were instrumental in securing the safe release of the victims,” the IGP said.
According to the police, Mrs. Adegoke, who is a relative of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons were abducted on June 3, 2026, while she was taking the children to school in Ibadan.
The statement revealed that the successful rescue operation was carried out at about 7:30 p.m. on June 6 following days of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical tracking of the kidnappers’ movements.
Police investigators reportedly monitored the activities of the criminal gang before launching a coordinated operation that led to a confrontation with the kidnappers.
During the operation, security operatives engaged the suspects in a gun battle, resulting in the death of two suspected kidnappers, while two rifles were recovered from the scene.
The police confirmed that the victims were rescued unharmed and have since been moved to a secure location where they are receiving medical attention and psychological support.
The statement further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation.
According to preliminary intelligence reports, some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire with security operatives.
Following the breakthrough, security agencies have intensified search operations and are currently tracking the remaining members of the gang with the aim of bringing them to justice.
The IGP assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting lives and property across the country, while urging citizens to continue supporting security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing investigations and crime-fighting efforts.
The successful rescue has attracted widespread commendation, with many Nigerians praising the swift response and coordinated efforts of the police and other security personnel involved in the operation.
