The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has downplayed the political strength of the “Rainbow Coalition” championed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, insisting that no political group can determine the outcome of the 2027 governorship election.
Reacting to Wike’s recent claim that the coalition would produce Rivers State’s next governor, ADC State Chairman Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa said political power ultimately belongs to the people, not any individual or alliance.
According to him, the ADC remains focused on building a strong grassroots movement, presenting credible candidates and offering practical solutions to the challenges facing Rivers residents and Nigerians at large.
“Power belongs to the people, not political parties. The party that earns the trust of the people will prevail,” Dimkpa stated.
The ADC chairman stressed that the party is not built around opposing any political figure but around winning the confidence of voters through competence, credibility and good governance.
He maintained that Rivers voters are politically aware enough to look beyond ethnic and political sentiments when choosing their leaders, adding that the party’s candidate for 2027 would be marketed based on merit, capacity and a clear development agenda.
Dimkpa also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure free, fair and credible elections, noting that the integrity of the 2027 polls will be crucial to Nigeria’s democratic future.
He further pledged that the ADC would strengthen its structures across wards and local governments, invest in voter education and election monitoring, and continue advocating for transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
