Popular gospel singer Adebisi Emmanuel, widely known as Bisimanuel, has weighed in on the growing debate surrounding the role of spiritual leaders and influential public figures amid Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.
Speaking during an interview, the gospel artiste addressed criticisms often directed at pastors, ministers, and celebrities who choose not to publicly comment on issues such as insecurity, kidnappings, and violence across the country.
According to him, many Nigerians naturally expect influential voices to speak up during difficult times, especially when communities are facing pain, uncertainty, and fear.
However, Bisimanuel stressed that silence should not automatically be mistaken for a lack of concern or compassion.
He explained that while some spiritual leaders prefer to make public statements, others contribute in different ways through prayer, private interventions, humanitarian support, and behind-the-scenes efforts that may not always be visible to the public.
“People look up to spiritual leaders and influential figures for guidance during challenging periods, which is understandable. But silence is not always indifference. Different people respond differently to situations,” he said.
The singer also opened up on the pressure that often comes with public visibility, revealing that he does not believe in speaking merely because social media trends demand it.
According to him, meaningful contributions should come from wisdom, clarity, and genuine conviction rather than pressure from public opinion.
“I prefer to speak when I have clarity, wisdom, and something meaningful to contribute,” he stated.
Bisimanuel noted that his primary assignment remains ministry and using music as a tool to inspire, heal, and encourage people, especially during difficult times.
He added that gospel artistes have a responsibility that goes beyond entertainment, stressing that faith-based voices should continue promoting hope, unity, truth, and emotional healing across the country.
The conversation also touched on the often-debated issue of gospel ministers charging fees for church ministrations and performances.
Rather than taking an extreme position, Bisimanuel called for understanding and balance, noting that while ministry is spiritual, practical realities cannot be ignored.
According to him, the focus should be on the motive behind such decisions rather than simply judging whether a minister charges or not.
The gospel singer further advised upcoming gospel artistes to prioritise character development, spiritual growth, and discipline before seeking fame or influence.
He warned that visibility without adequate preparation can become dangerous and may ultimately damage both ministry and personal growth.
Looking ahead, Bisimanuel disclosed that he is currently working on new music projects and ministry initiatives, promising more impactful content for his audience in the near future.
