Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has opened up about his relationship with his first daughter, Danielle Edochie, amid continued reactions surrounding his family life online.
The actor made the emotional clarification during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where he addressed public assumptions about his bond with the 21-year-old.
Yul’s comments come after social media users criticised him for allegedly ignoring Danielle’s graduation while frequently posting about the children he shares with his second wife, Judy Austin.
Responding to the controversy, the actor insisted that he and his daughter remain very close despite public perception.
According to him, Danielle is still young, and he does not expect her to fully understand certain realities at her age.
Yul explained that when he was younger, he also struggled to understand some of his own father’s decisions, adding that maturity often changes perspective over time.
“We are very close. She is just 21, I don’t expect her to understand me. When I was 21, I didn’t understand my father,” he said.
The actor further noted that it is completely natural for children to feel emotionally closer to their mother, especially during difficult family situations.
“There will be a tilt towards her mother; it is a normal thing,” he added.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians debating family dynamics, parenting, and the emotional impact of public controversies on children.
Yul Edochie’s family life has remained a major topic on social media since he publicly introduced actress Judy Austin as his second wife in 2022, a development that generated intense reactions from fans and colleagues.
Despite the criticism, the actor has repeatedly maintained that he values all his children and continues to focus on his family and career.
