Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Basketmouth, has criticised the growing culture of celebrating scandals and negativity instead of applauding success and hard work.
In a post shared on his Instagram page, the entertainer expressed disappointment over how controversies often dominate social media conversations, while genuine achievements receive little attention.
According to Basketmouth, many Nigerian blogs and online platforms now focus more on embarrassing moments and gossip because they attract traffic and engagement faster than positive stories.
He questioned why society has become more interested in people’s failures than their accomplishments.
The comedian pointed out that people who build successful businesses, create jobs, break barriers or achieve major milestones are often ignored online, while scandals quickly become trending topics for days.
“Let one embarrassing moment happen and suddenly every platform becomes CNN,” he wrote.
Basketmouth warned that constantly rewarding negativity could slowly create a society where excellence, discipline and hard work are no longer valued.
He stressed that when people see scandals receiving more attention than success, it sends the wrong message to younger generations.
The entertainer called on Nigerians to start celebrating creativity, consistency and achievement again instead of constantly amplifying outrage, gossip and public downfall.
His comments have sparked conversations online, with many social media users agreeing that positive stories rarely get the same energy as controversial content.
Others, however, argued that scandals naturally attract attention because of public curiosity and internet culture.
