The Lagos Waste Management Authority has announced plans to carry out a comprehensive safety audit of its operational facilities across the state as part of efforts to improve workplace safety and strengthen service delivery.
The initiative was disclosed by LAWMA’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, during an inspection visit to the agency’s Transfer Loading Station at Simpson on Lagos Island.
According to a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, the inspection focused on operational procedures, environmental compliance and safety standards at the facility.
Gbadegesin explained that the planned audit is aimed at identifying operational and safety gaps across LAWMA facilities while ensuring compliance with global best practices.
He noted that the exercise would help improve efficiency, reduce operational risks and create a safer working environment for sanitation workers, contractors and other stakeholders.
According to him, employee welfare, environmental sustainability and operational safety remain critical priorities for the agency.
The LAWMA boss stressed the importance of proactive safety checks in maintaining effective waste management operations and improving public health standards across Lagos State.
During the inspection, Gbadegesin also met with operational staff and facility managers, urging them to strictly comply with established safety procedures and operational guidelines.
He commended workers for their commitment and resilience despite the challenges associated with sanitation services in the state.
Gbadegesin reaffirmed LAWMA’s commitment to continuous reforms, infrastructure upgrades and improved operational systems to meet the increasing waste management demands of Lagos residents.
He added that the planned safety audit forms part of broader efforts to reposition LAWMA as a modern, efficient and environmentally responsible waste management institution focused on service excellence and workplace safety.
