Child rights advocacy organisation, Campaign Against Pedophilia Africa, has announced plans to host a public awareness summit in Lagos focused on child protection and the prevention of sexual violence against minors.
The event is scheduled to take place on May 22, 2026, at Effortswill Academy in Iyana-Ejigbo, Lagos, beginning from 11am.
According to the organisers, the programme is part of broader efforts to strengthen child safeguarding systems and expand awareness on abuse prevention in schools and communities.
Executive Director of CAPA, Dr Wole Olarinde, said the initiative became necessary due to increasing cases of sexual abuse and exploitation involving children across the country.
He explained that the awareness campaign is aimed at educating children on how to recognise danger signs, avoid sexual predators and protect themselves from abuse.
Olarinde noted that the organisation has intensified sensitisation programmes in schools and youth-focused communities because early education remains one of the most effective ways to reduce children’s vulnerability to abuse.
According to him, the growing rate of harassment and exploitation involving minors makes preventive education more urgent than ever.
The summit will feature discussions on personal safety, warning signs of abuse and practical steps children, parents and caregivers can take to respond to potential threats.
Among the speakers expected at the programme are Dr Olarinde, Dele Oyeleru and Funmi Ademola.
Oyeleru is expected to speak on protecting children from the growing threat of pedophilia, while Ademola will focus on identifying warning signs and possible escape strategies for children facing abuse risks.
Organisers disclosed that about 250 pupils from different schools are expected to participate in the maiden edition of the summit.
CAPA also urged parents, teachers and child welfare stakeholders to support stronger child protection initiatives and increased public awareness aimed at reducing sexual exploitation of minors.
