Incumbent Lawmaker Defeats Eight Aspirants After Dominating 22 Wards In Ekiti APC Primary
The spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Akintunde Rotimi, has secured the All Progressives Congress ticket to contest for the Ekiti North I Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections after emerging victorious in the party’s primary election.
Rotimi, who currently represents the Ikole/Oye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, reportedly defeated eight other aspirants during the APC primary conducted on Saturday.
According to details released by his media team, the incumbent lawmaker won overwhelmingly after securing victory in 22 out of the 24 wards across the constituency, producing what party officials described as a clear and decisive outcome.
Among the aspirants defeated during the primary were former House of Representatives member, Bimbo Daramola, alongside Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, Mr Gbenga Joseph, Prince Ayorinde Ejioye and Engineer Ayo Omotosho.
The statement further revealed that the race initially attracted more contestants before some aspirants later withdrew from the contest and openly endorsed Rotimi’s return bid ahead of the election.
Those who reportedly stepped down in support of the incumbent include Mrs Funke Owoseni, Mr Kayode Omoboya and Barrister Yemi Ayeni.
According to the statement, the three aspirants publicly aligned with Rotimi before the primary election, strengthening his support base across the constituency ahead of the exercise.
Party stakeholders and influential APC leaders within the constituency were also said to have endorsed the lawmaker before the voting process commenced.
Rotimi, who is serving his first term in the House of Representatives, was appointed spokesperson of the 10th House and has remained one of the prominent voices of the National Assembly under the current leadership.
The statement described the APC primary election as peaceful, transparent and competitive, stressing that the process reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy and fair participation among aspirants.
Political activities and party primaries have continued to intensify across the country as political parties prepare ahead of the 2027 general elections, with many serving lawmakers seeking fresh mandates to return to the National Assembly.
