ValueJet has reaffirmed its commitment to improving air connectivity across Nigeria as the airline announced plans to commence flight operations on the Lagos-Benin route from May 18, a move aimed at making travel between major commercial cities faster, safer and more convenient for passengers.
The Managing Director and Accountable Officer of ValueJet, Omololu Majekodunmi, explained that the new route forms part of the airline’s broader strategy to strengthen domestic aviation services and expand access to efficient air transportation within Nigeria and across parts of West Africa.
According to Majekodunmi, the airline remains focused on building stronger connections between Nigeria’s major economic hubs while maintaining high standards in customer service, operational safety and reliability. He noted that the introduction of Benin City into the airline’s growing route network reflects ValueJet’s long-term vision of creating seamless travel opportunities for both business and leisure travellers.
Speaking on the expansion, Majekodunmi stated that the Lagos-Benin route would provide passengers with a more comfortable and time-saving alternative to long-distance road travel, especially for individuals who frequently move between both cities for commercial, professional and personal activities.
He explained that ValueJet’s objective goes beyond simply adding destinations, stressing that the airline is focused on improving accessibility and ensuring travellers enjoy dependable services across all its routes. According to him, the company wants to make domestic travel easier for Nigerians while also supporting economic activities by linking strategic commercial centres.
“The addition of Benin to our network reflects our focus on connecting key cities across Nigeria with safe, reliable and customer-friendly services,” Majekodunmi said while discussing the airline’s expansion plans.
He further explained that the airline is committed to providing passengers with more efficient travel options while steadily increasing its operational reach within Nigeria and beyond.
“We are pleased to provide more accessible and efficient travel options for our passengers while continuing to expand our reach,” he added.
Majekodunmi also highlighted the airline’s growing domestic operations, revealing that ValueJet currently operates flights connecting Lagos with major cities including Abuja, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Calabar, Kano, Jos and Gateway International Airport in Ogun State.
Beyond Nigeria, the airline has also expanded its regional footprint with international flight operations to destinations such as Cotonou, Accra, Malabo and Banjul, positioning itself as one of the emerging carriers driving regional connectivity in West Africa.
The latest route expansion comes at a time when domestic airlines are increasingly seeking to improve inter-city mobility and reduce the burden of road transportation for passengers travelling across Nigeria’s major economic corridors. Industry stakeholders believe improved air connectivity can boost commerce, tourism, investment and regional integration while helping travellers save time and avoid challenges associated with long road journeys.
ValueJet’s continued expansion also reflects growing competition within Nigeria’s aviation sector, where airlines are investing in route development, fleet expansion and customer experience in a bid to capture larger market share and improve domestic travel efficiency.
With the launch of the Lagos-Benin route, the airline is expected to further strengthen its position in Nigeria’s domestic aviation market while supporting broader efforts to improve transportation infrastructure and connectivity across the country.
