The Chairman of the Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has expressed strong confidence that the party will produce a presidential candidate capable of winning the 2027 general elections.
Turaki gave the assurance while delivering his acceptance speech after his appointment by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
His remarks come at a time when the PDP is intensifying internal efforts to rebuild its structures, strengthen party unity, and reposition itself ahead of the next major electoral cycle.
Turaki Confident of PDP Victory in 2027
Addressing party leaders and members, Turaki said the PDP remains committed to presenting candidates for all elective positions across the country.
He stated that the party’s ambition goes beyond merely participating in the 2027 elections, stressing that the PDP intends to produce a presidential candidate who can secure victory for both the party and the country.
According to him, the opposition party remains determined to reclaim political momentum and provide Nigerians with a credible alternative platform in the next general elections.
His statement is one of the clearest indications yet that the party’s new interim leadership sees the 2027 race as a major strategic objective.
Appreciation for Confidence Reposed in Interim Committee
Turaki also expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for the confidence placed in the newly constituted interim committee.
He described the appointment as a significant responsibility and pledged that the team would approach the task with commitment, discipline, and a strong sense of duty.
According to him, the interim leadership recognises the importance of the moment and understands the expectations of party members across the country.
He said the committee would work to justify the trust placed in it by the party’s leadership.
Reflects on PDP’s Difficult Moments
Reflecting on the recent history of the party, Turaki recalled the period leading up to the national convention held in Ibadan.
He noted that at various points, there were widespread predictions that the PDP could collapse under internal pressures and political challenges.
However, he said the party survived because of resilience, sacrifice, and sustained internal efforts by leaders and members determined to keep the platform together.
According to him, despite difficult moments, the PDP has remained standing and continues to occupy a major position within Nigeria’s opposition political landscape.
‘PDP Remains a Major Opposition Force’
Turaki argued that the party remains one of the most influential opposition forces in the country.
He said the PDP has continued to maintain relevance despite setbacks, internal disagreements, and political realignments in recent years.
For him, the ability of the party to remain active and nationally visible reflects the strength of its political foundation and organisational structure.
He maintained that the PDP still possesses the institutional capacity required to compete strongly in future elections.
Interim Leadership Ready for the Challenge
The PDP interim chairman acknowledged that the new leadership faces a demanding task.
He noted that rebuilding internal cohesion, strengthening party structures, and preparing for future elections would require discipline, hard work, and collective commitment.
Despite the challenges, Turaki said both he and members of the interim committee are prepared to take on the responsibility.
According to him, the committee accepts the challenge wholeheartedly and is determined to deliver on the expectations placed before it.
PDP Plans to Contest and Win Future Elections
Turaki also stressed that the party’s objective is not limited to appearing on the ballot.
He said the PDP intends to compete strongly in upcoming off-season elections and build momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the party will work hard to improve its electoral competitiveness and position itself for success across different levels of political contest.
The statement signals an early effort by the interim leadership to project confidence and reinforce the party’s readiness for future political battles.
Call for Unity and Commitment
Turaki used the occasion to call on party members and stakeholders to remain united and committed to the collective interest of the party.
He acknowledged that the road ahead may not be easy but insisted that the task remains achievable.
According to him, the PDP has overcome difficult periods before and has the capacity to do so again.
He urged members to remain focused, avoid distractions, and work together toward a common objective.
Political observers say internal unity will remain one of the most important factors shaping the PDP’s chances ahead of 2027.
Loyalty to Party and National Cause
The interim chairman concluded by reaffirming the loyalty of the committee to the party and to what he described as the broader national interest.
He assured members that the interim leadership would remain fully committed to the mission of rebuilding the PDP and strengthening its political relevance.
According to him, collective effort, discipline, and strategic organisation will be essential if the party hopes to regain momentum in the years ahead.
PDP’s Repositioning Ahead of 2027
Turaki’s remarks come amid broader efforts by the PDP to reorganise its leadership structure and consolidate its position as a major opposition platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
With political alignments already beginning to evolve across party lines, the opposition party appears focused on restoring internal stability and rebuilding confidence among members and supporters.
For now, the message from the new interim leadership is clear: the PDP intends to remain a major player in Nigeria’s political landscape and believes it can produce a presidential candidate capable of winning in 2027.
