The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, has extended heartfelt congratulations to workers across the state as Nigeria marks the 2026 International Workers’ Day.
In a goodwill message released to commemorate the occasion, the police chief praised the dedication, resilience, and resourcefulness of the Oyo workforce, noting that their consistent efforts remain a driving force behind the state’s socio-economic progress.
Workers Recognised as Pillars of Development
Olugbenga highlighted the critical role played by workers in sustaining growth and stability, emphasizing that their professionalism across various sectors contributes significantly to peace and development in Oyo State.
He commended not only public servants but also individuals across key professions, including healthcare providers, educators, artisans, traders, farmers, transport workers, journalists, and members of organised labour unions. According to him, their collective contributions are essential to nation-building and societal advancement.
The commissioner gave special recognition to officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He described their efforts as courageous and vital, noting that their sacrifices continue to ensure that residents can live and work in a secure environment.
Commitment to Professional Policing
Reaffirming his stance on discipline and service delivery, Olugbenga assured residents that the Oyo State Police Command remains fully committed to its constitutional responsibility of maintaining law and order.
He stressed that the Command’s operations are aligned with the vision of the 23rd Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, with a strong focus on professionalism, accountability, and effective policing.
According to him, strategic efforts are ongoing to create a safer and more conducive atmosphere where residents and businesses can thrive without fear.
The police boss also addressed internal discipline within the Force, stating that officers who distinguish themselves through exceptional performance will be duly acknowledged and rewarded.
On the other hand, he warned that any personnel found engaging in misconduct or violating established rules will face strict disciplinary action in accordance with the law.
Olugbenga further disclosed that the Command is intensifying proactive and intelligence-driven policing strategies aimed at preventing crime and strengthening public safety.
He reiterated that maintaining a peaceful environment is essential for economic activities and overall development, assuring residents that security operations will continue to be strengthened.
Call for Public Cooperation
While congratulating workers on the occasion, the commissioner urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant in their communities.
He encouraged the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that can assist in crime prevention and detection.
“Security is a collective responsibility. We urge all residents to continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies for the safety of all,” he noted.
