Omah Lay Declares Himself Nigeria’s Greatest Artist of the Last 20 Years Ahead of New Album Release
Afrobeats star Omah Lay is stepping into a bold and confident phase as he gears up for the release of his highly anticipated sophomore album, Clarity of Mind. In a recent interview, the Port Harcourt-born artist made headlines after asserting his dominance in the Nigerian music scene over the past two decades.
While addressing ongoing comparisons within the Afrobeats space, Omah Lay expressed his dissatisfaction with being constantly measured against his peers. Despite this, he confidently stated that, in terms of artistry and music creation, he believes he stands above the rest. According to him, the only artist he considers close to his level is fellow global star Burna Boy.
This isn’t the first time the singer has made such bold claims. In 2025, he previously declared himself the greatest of his generation, promising that his forthcoming project would serve as undeniable proof of his talent and artistic depth.
Building momentum for the album, Omah Lay has released a string of singles, including Holyghost (2024), Waist (2025), and Don’t Love Me. These tracks are all set to feature on the 12-track album, scheduled for release on April 3, 2026.
Speaking about Clarity of Mind, the artist revealed that the project is deeply personal, offering an unfiltered look into various aspects of his life—from his mental health struggles to his complex experiences with relationships and intimacy. Much like his critically acclaimed debut album Boy Alone, fans can expect a raw, introspective, and emotionally honest body of work.
With confidence at an all-time high, Omah Lay has even gone as far as calling Clarity of Mind the greatest album in the history of contemporary Nigerian pop music—setting the stage for what could be one of the most talked-about releases of the year.
