Fresh violence has rocked Plateau State after gunmen reportedly killed at least 18 people during coordinated attacks on two communities in Bokkos Local Government Area.
The deadly incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when armed attackers invaded Kawel and Kopkon communities in Mushere District, leaving residents in shock and mourning.
According to security sources, the assailants stormed the villages and opened fire on residents before fleeing the area as security operatives moved in to respond to distress calls.
Troops under Operation Enduring Peace were said to have arrived shortly after the attacks and discovered the devastating aftermath.
Reports indicate that 12 victims were found in Kawel community, while six others were killed in nearby Kopkon village, bringing the total death toll to 18.
Following the attacks, security forces launched a manhunt for the perpetrators and intensified operations across the area in an effort to prevent further violence.
The latest killings add to a growing wave of insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where several communities have suffered repeated attacks in recent months.
In May, multiple lives were lost in separate attacks in Riyom and Bassa Local Government Areas, while another deadly incident in March claimed dozens of lives in Jos North.
Residents have continued to call for stronger security measures as authorities work to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed.
