The Federal Government has called on commercial banks to support efforts aimed at improving revenue collection through its newly introduced Revenue Optimisation Assurance Platform (RevOp).
The appeal was made during a sensitisation workshop organised by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation in Abuja.
According to the government, the digital platform was developed to modernise revenue collection, improve accountability, block leakages and ensure greater transparency in the management of public funds.
Representing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, officials explained that RevOp provides a centralised system that enables federal agencies to generate, collect and monitor revenue in real time.
The government noted that the platform is designed to replace outdated manual processes that have contributed to inefficiencies in revenue administration over the years.
Officials also acknowledged that some operational challenges remain, particularly limited awareness among bank staff responsible for processing transactions linked to the platform.
They stressed that banks play a critical role in ensuring the success of the initiative and urged financial institutions to educate their frontline personnel on the platform’s operations.
The Accountant-General’s office said the system would improve visibility into government revenue, strengthen compliance and provide real-time data to support better decision-making.
Authorities further disclosed that more than 70 percent of Federal Government-owned entities have already adopted the platform as part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and curbing revenue leakages.
The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s wider strategy to strengthen public finance management and increase non-oil revenue generation through technology-driven solutions.
