Nigerian music star Tems stole the spotlight at the official opening of the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, delivering a captivating performance that left guests cheering and applauding.
The Grammy-winning singer performed her hit song “Me & U” during the high-profile event attended by global celebrities, political leaders and cultural icons.
Tems held the audience spellbound for more than three minutes with her soulful vocals and stage presence, as guests were seen singing and dancing along to the performance.
Her appearance was one of the highlights of the ceremony, which marked the official unveiling of the Obama Presidential Center — a facility designed to preserve the legacy of former US President Barack Obama through a museum, library and educational spaces.
The event featured a star-studded lineup that included Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Bruce Springsteen, Bono and The Edge, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson and several other renowned entertainers.
Former US Presidents Joe Biden, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush were also among the distinguished guests in attendance.
Speaking at the event, former First Lady Michelle Obama reflected on the significance of the center and its connection to her roots.
“The opening of the Presidential Center right here on the South Side of Chicago is truly a full circle moment,” Michelle Obama said.
She recalled growing up near the area and described the project as a meaningful transformation of a place that once felt neglected.
“To now be a part of this amazing center, this is beyond a gift,” she added.
The event also showcased the work of Nigerian-American artist Njideka Akunyili-Crosby, daughter of the late Dora Akunyili, who previously created a portrait of Barack and Michelle Obama for the center.
Tems’ performance further highlighted the growing global influence of Nigerian music and its presence on some of the world’s biggest stages.
