Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has opened up on his private meeting with former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, shortly after emerging as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Atiku disclosed that both leaders discussed Nigeria’s worsening economic hardship, insecurity and the urgent need for patriotic Nigerians to help rescue the country from its current challenges.
Sharing details of the visit via his X handle on Thursday, Atiku said the meeting at Amaechi’s Abuja residence was filled with “deep and honest conversations” about the nation’s future.
“Beyond the warmth and camaraderie, we had deep and honest conversations about the troubling state of our nation, the growing economic pain, insecurity, and the urgent responsibility on patriotic Nigerians to continue engaging in the search for solutions,” he wrote
The former vice president also revealed that he used the visit to celebrate Amaechi’s birthday, while joking about Arsenal’s recent success.
“I teased that Arsenal’s historic triumph could not have arrived at a better time,” Atiku said.
According to him, Amaechi also promised to host him properly with Rivers-style fisherman soup during another visit.
The meeting comes barely 24 hours after Atiku defeated Amaechi and former banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to clinch the ADC presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
Official results released by the party showed Atiku polling 1,846,370 votes, while Amaechi secured 504,117 votes and Hayatu-Deen received 177,120 votes.
Despite the outcome, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen have rejected the results of the primary, alleging irregularities in the voting process.
