Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday paid a visit to former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi at his Abuja residence, barely a day after emerging as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Atiku was accompanied by former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu and other party leaders during the visit.
The meeting comes amid growing reactions following the ADC presidential primary, where Atiku defeated Amaechi and former banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to clinch the party’s ticket for the 2027 presidential election.
Official results released by the party showed Atiku polling 1,846,370 votes, while Amaechi secured 504,117 votes and Hayatu-Deen received 177,120 votes.
Following his victory, Atiku called on aggrieved members and fellow aspirants to unite and work together ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I appeal to all those who feel aggrieved to come back to our party and close ranks with the rest of us,” Atiku said after the results were announced.
He also directly appealed to Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen to join him in what he described as a mission to “save Nigeria’s democracy.”

“There are no winners and no losers. Our people look up to us for leadership, and I am ready to lead,” he added.
Despite the reconciliation move, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen have reportedly rejected the outcome of the primary, alleging irregularities in the voting process.
Details of Thursday’s closed-door meeting between Atiku and Amaechi were not disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
