Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has emerged victorious in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election held in Bayelsa State.
Amaechi defeated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in the exercise as the race for the party’s 2027 presidential ticket continues across the country.
The result was announced in a statement shared by the ADC on its official X account on Tuesday.
According to the figures released by the party, Amaechi secured a total of 44,404 votes to win the Bayelsa State presidential primary convincingly.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar came second with 6,570 votes, while Mohammed Hayatu-Deen polled 939 votes.
The Bayelsa result is one of several state outcomes being recorded as the ADC continues its nationwide presidential primary process ahead of the 2027 general election.
Party delegates across different states are currently voting to determine who will eventually emerge as the party’s presidential candidate.
Although final national results have not yet been officially announced, early reports suggest Atiku is still maintaining a strong lead in several other states as collation continues nationwide.
Amaechi’s victory in Bayelsa has already generated political reactions online, especially amid the growing tension within the ADC following complaints and allegations surrounding the primary process in some states.
The development further highlights the fierce battle for control of the opposition party ahead of the next presidential election.
