Former Minister of Transportation and presidential hopeful, Rotimi Amaechi, has openly rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, accusing the party leadership of manipulating the election process.
Amaechi’s reaction has now sparked fresh tension within the opposition party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday, the former Rivers State governor described the primary election results as “concocted” and insisted that the process failed to meet basic standards of fairness and transparency.
According to him, he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primary if the exercise was conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.
“I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values the ADC promised Nigerians,” Amaechi stated.
The former minister alleged that a large number of party members were denied the opportunity to vote during the exercise across different parts of the country.
“There’s no way about 80 percent of party members were not allowed to vote and you expect me to accept such results,” he said.
Amaechi questioned the moral standing of the ADC if the party engages in the same electoral practices it often criticises in other political parties.
He accused the leadership of allegedly allowing vote buying, result manipulation, and voter disenfranchisement during the primary process.
“A party that condemns APC and INEC for rigging and writing results cannot turn around and do the same thing,” he added.
The former governor stressed that the ADC was supposed to represent a fresh alternative for Nigerians tired of political malpractice and poor governance.
His comments are expected to deepen the growing crisis within the party as political observers continue to monitor developments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The controversy surrounding the ADC primary has already triggered widespread reactions online, with supporters of both Amaechi and Atiku Abubakar debating the credibility of the exercise.
