Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has finally spoken about her relationship with fellow screen icon Genevieve Nnaji, revealing why the once-close friendship between the two actresses quietly faded over the years.
Speaking during separate interviews on the Tea with Tay Podcast and with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Kate explained that there was no major fight or dramatic fallout between them. According to her, they simply grew apart with time.
The actress revealed that she and Genevieve used to share a very strong bond during the early days of Netflix’s expansion into Nigeria, often attending events together and spending time around the same circle in the entertainment industry.
“We were very close at some point,” Kate said, reflecting on their friendship.
However, she admitted that communication between them gradually reduced until they eventually became distant from each other.
Kate confessed that she still does not fully understand what may have caused the separation, but suggested that Genevieve may naturally prefer withdrawing from people and keeping her personal space.
According to her, Genevieve has a quiet and deeply private personality that sometimes leaves friends confused about where they stand with her.
“She just disappears sometimes and people begin to wonder if they did something wrong,” Kate explained.
Despite the distance between them, Kate made it clear that there is no bad blood or hidden animosity between the two Nollywood stars.
The actress recalled reuniting with Genevieve during the filming of a Netflix advert in South Africa, describing the encounter as warm, peaceful, and friendly.
According to Kate, Genevieve was kind throughout the project and even made sure to properly say goodbye before leaving, something she appreciated deeply.
“She was warm. There was no hostility at all,” Kate shared.
Kate also praised Genevieve’s independent lifestyle and strong personality, comparing her to Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie for her calm, private, and self-contained nature.
The revelation has sparked emotional reactions online, with many Nollywood fans expressing sadness over the distance between two of Nigeria’s most admired actresses while also praising the maturity and respect Kate showed during the interview.
Both actresses are regarded as pioneers of modern Nollywood and have remained influential figures in African cinema for decades.
