Justice Mohammed Nasir Yunusa of the Federal High Court, Kano Division, has reportedly passed away after suddenly collapsing at his residence.
According to reports, the respected judge slumped in his living room on Thursday evening and was immediately rushed to a hospital in Kano.
Medical personnel later confirmed him dead.
Sources within the Federal High Court reportedly confirmed the tragic development on Saturday, revealing that the late jurist was buried on Friday in line with Islamic burial rites.
Colleagues and associates have since described Justice Yunusa as a hardworking and dedicated judge who handled several sensitive and high-profile cases during his time on the bench.
The Director of Information of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Catherine Oby Christopher, also confirmed the incident, stating that the judge died at the State Medical Centre in Kano.
Before his death, Justice Yunusa presided over a number of politically significant cases that attracted national attention.
One of the major cases linked to him followed the 2023 general elections and involved a legal dispute over the candidacy of Labour Party members across Nigeria.
The case included issues surrounding Abia State Governor Alex Otti and other Labour Party candidates.
At the time, Justice Yunusa ruled on matters concerning certificates of return issued to Labour Party candidates, although he clarified that candidates from Abia State were not directly part of the suit before his court.
The late judge was widely respected within legal circles for his commitment to justice and professionalism.
His sudden death has sparked reactions from colleagues, lawyers and court officials who described the news as shocking and painful.
