Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shut down growing speculation linking him with a possible exit from the club, insisting he remains fully committed to the Premier League champions.
Reports had suggested City were already preparing internally for Guardiola’s departure after the season, with former assistant coach Enzo Maresca reportedly considered as a possible replacement.
However, speaking ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Bournemouth, the Spanish manager firmly denied plans to leave the Etihad anytime soon.
Addressing questions about his future, Guardiola reminded reporters that he still has a valid contract with the club.
“So many times, I have one more year,” Guardiola said while dismissing rumours surrounding his exit.
The City boss also rejected claims that the remaining matches of the season could serve as a farewell tour.
“I am here, I have a contract,” he stated.
Guardiola was further asked about reports suggesting Manchester City could honour him by naming the club’s newly expanded North Stand after him if he eventually leaves this summer.
Reacting to the speculation, the Spaniard laughed off the idea and insisted he was unaware of such plans.
“No, no, no, no, no, no, I have no idea about that,” Guardiola said.
“They don’t have to do anything, honestly,” he added.
Since taking charge of Manchester City in 2016, Guardiola has transformed the club into one of Europe’s most dominant football teams.
Under his leadership, City have won six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, three FA Cups and five League Cups.
Despite the ongoing speculation, Guardiola remains on course to add another Premier League title to his achievements after already leading City to FA Cup and Carabao Cup success this season.
